My chest is so tight that I can’t breathe. Why can’t I breathe? My head spins as small black dots dance in my vision. There is buzzing around me. People are talking and shouting. I have no idea what they are saying or what’s happening. All I can hear is that voice saying those things to me.

I stand, needing to get out of here and get some air. My legs buckle and stop working. On the way down, I pray the baby is okay. A sharp pain at my temple registers, and everything goes black.

I come to with a bright light overhead and small elves playing a rock concert in my brain. Squinting, I try to figure out where I am and what’s happening. To my right, I find Chey and Elle talking quietly. I turn and look to my left, realizing I’m in the hospital. Reaching down fearfully, I touch my stomach. My movements catch the ladies’ attention, and they come to my bedside.

“How are you feeling?” Chey says at the same time Elle says, “You scared us half to fucking death.”

I close my eyes, shushing them, so my head doesn’t explode. They both stop talking and look at each other in concern. I make the motion for a drink, and Chey hands me a small cup with a straw. I take a long pull, enjoying the icy water. Sighing, I lay back, closing my eyes when the door opens.

The doctor comes through with a wide smile on his face. “Well, hello, my dear. It’s good to see you’re awake. How are you feeling right now?”

“My head is killing me. Can you tell me what happened?” I ask him.

“Well, we were hoping you could tell us. Your friend here found you on the ground in your classroom. It seems you may have hit your head off the desk on the way down,” he tells me.

The memory of those text messages slam into me like the force of a thousand trucks. I struggle to breathe again, causing the machines to go off. My vision goes blurry when a sudden cold shock causes me to gasp and look at Chey with a cup in her hand.

“When did you start having panic attacks?” she asks me, looking worried.

“What are you talking about? I don’t have panic attacks.”

The doctor looks at the tablet in his hand. “Is this what happened at school?”

Nodding, I look at everyone in the room. Was that what was happening? Did I have panic attacks because of my stalker?

“Alright, knowing that’s what’s going on, I’m going to give you some meds to help,” the doctor says.

“What about the baby? Will it hurt the baby at all?” I ask him, rubbing my lower belly.

“What we are going to give you won’t cause any harm to the baby. Do you know what has brought on the panic attacks?”

“I have a stalker who is escalating and threatening me. The cops are working on it, but it’s getting out of hand.” Elle squeezes my hand.
